Punk Music

Do you know the real background of punk music? Have you ever considered listening to it? Well, to be honest, my first day of understanding and listen to punk music was about 4 days ago. I don't listen to punk, but I found the background and musical elements quite interesting.

Punk began in New York and introduce in the club called CBGB. The owner of the club, Hilly Kristal, first customer was Malcolm McLauren. McLauren invested in a lot if bands. The bands were the New York Dolls and Sex Pistols. He persuaded the New York Dolls and managed them, while being their stylist. But, the New York Dolls didn't cut it. The red leather style backfired. After that strategy failed, Mclauren re-opened his store and change the name from Let It Rock to SEX. And that's when an amazing thing happen, McLauren met Matlock. Matlock introduce McLauren to Steve Jones and and Paul Cook. Matlock, Jones and Cook started a band and McLauren managed them.

The Sex Pistols still needed a lead singer and John Lydon was fit for the job. The Sex Pistols actually had no musical skills until they listened to Ramones and learning the basic of their instrument.
The Sex Pistols had all the aspects of the of punk. They were very energic, noise and happy to start riots. They were famous from the two top songs, "Anarchy in the UK" and "God Save The Queen." There message was "No Future" which they actually followed. They were enfluence by alcohol and heavy drugs like alcohol. The group broke up and was announced in January 1978. But, in a brief career, the Sex Pistols made a huge impact in rock.

Rock has interesting ways of elements in the music to make it interesting. For example, the Sex Pistols song,"God Save the Queen" the quitar and bass move in tandem to hammer out a relentless rock rhythm almost all the way through the song. The only time the bass and guitar didn't do that is when the periodic guitar riffs that answer Rotten's (John Lydon) vocals that gives it a distinctive shape. Another element that makes punk music interesting is how loud it is. The noise shows the rage and distraction they felt. Another way they showed how they felt was the fast tempo beat of the song.

The cultural and social aspects are very different from other types of music. The cultural of punk was to express your self in the clothing. The youth wanted an outlet so they started to pierce their bodies, and wear torn clothing. Also they wore technical hair such as spiked hair and colored their hair. The youth wanted to state a statement. The statement wasn't loud enough.

Punk has a way of repeating thing, such as repetition. For example, in the song Heroine by the Velvet Underground. The tempo of the song goes from slow and then ease up to be fast to show the energy of the drug heroine itself. The tempo of the song contrast the song title. Punk also show similarities. One similarity is in the lyrics itself. For example, in the song, "Heroine" the hook is always infront of the verse. But, the words switch up little bit.

Public enemy "fight the power"

Have you ever heard a song that speaks of political issues that occurs in the world? For some reason a lot of kids my age wouldn't even bother listening to it. I particularly liked this assignment. this assignment is based on the song called Fight The Power by Public Enemy. Public enemy made this song to inform us about African American rights.

The rhythm of the song is very upbeat. The style of the song is hip-hop. Usually when you hear hip-hop many people thing artist talk about superficial things as money, girl, "trap life"; etc.  But, this song proves otherwise. The rhythm shows compassion and dedication. The rhythm it self state that the song was going to get a statement across to listeners.

The words and the music has a relationship between it. The relationship is the lyrics it -self has a serious meaning but the music and rhythm has a happy and powerful beat. Public enemy wanted to give a message but didn't want the song to be slow. They wanted to give a message but at the same time not be a debby downer. For example in the song it says,"While black bands sweating And the rhythm rhymes rolling Got to give us what we want Gotta give us what we need Our freedom of speech is freedom or death we go to fight the powers that be."

The form of the song is intro-verse1-hook-verse2-hook-verse3-hook. This form was actually not usually in the 1980s. The public enemy wanted to be different. Most people think they wanted to do that so it can different, but I think otherwise. I think they did that so they can get a point across. I think that symbolize that it is a time for change. They wanted to show that everyone should and will be treated fair and equally and that they won't be judge for being different.

The timbre of the song is also different. Usually song that's trying to prove a point usually has a slower tempo, but this song isn't at all. When a artist have something to prove, they make it slow so that listeners can hear the words. Fight power is a great collaboration. Even though the beat has a fast tempo, you can hear the words.

"Hey Ya"

"Hey Ya" is very appealing to the ears, but many people dont know the meaning of the lyrics to the song. Most people actually dance to it. Andre 3000-the artist to the song-made the song to move on from his pass life, which is his divorce from his wife. A lot of people miss the concept of the song. This is because Andre 3000 made the music upbeat to not show emotion. For example if somebody listened to the song, but didn't understand english, they would think it's a happy song, but clearly it isn't. For example one part of the song say, "We get together Oh, we get together But separate's always better when there's feeling involve." Andre Lauren Benjamin, Andre 3000 government name, meant that even when you love someone, you sometimes got to let them go."

anazlying maybellene

There is many different elements to the song maybellene. One element to this song is the rhythm. The rhythm is very fast. The rhythm symbolism that he is going after the girl of his dreams and he will get her at a point of time. A similarity to the song maybellene is the ending and the beginning of the song. Both parts is a car rumbling.

maybelline

Maybellene is a song made by Chuck Berry. This song is organized by the 12 bar blues and verse chorus form. It uses 1 chord on the verse. This is because he wanted to make space in the lyrics and most of the time, the word aren't the same for the verse. It helps per trait the vision of the song. the chorus is always the same for it show the story behind the music. a similarity is how chuck berry took someone song but changed the verse just like Kanye West song,Through The Wire, from Chaka Khan.
